Kitchen island made of piano parts and recycled items

If you remember back in January I told you about and old piano that I was taking apart to recycle and make into something useful and pretty.  Well i've finished the first item of that project.  A kitchen island.  Below are the parts that were used to construct the island.

The fancy front of the piano.

Some wood from the body of the piano.

These are old legs from a very old table that I've been saving.

And here is the design I came up with. The top of course is the decorative part of the piano. The apron and bottom shelf is made of other parts of the piano cabinet that were ripped down to smaller boards. I designed the style and my dad put it together for me.  This is the island before it was painted.

Another view upside down.

The finished island without the glass top.

A close up view of the decorative top.

And the final piece with the glass top. The glass top was also a recycled piece.  A friend gave it to me and I knew I'd use it sometime. It was the correct width but a little long.  So one of my son-in-laws that is in the glass business cut some off for me. Thanks Jason. And here it is in all its glory.  I LOVE it!

Stay tuned for more things to come from that great piano.

You will seek me and find me
when you seek me with all your heart.

Artwork Part 2

Here is part 2 of my artwork. Hope you enjoy.

As you can tell this is a colorful butterfly. It was suppose to be for sell but I decided I wanted to keep it.  I have a problem with that sometimes. I love the bright colors.

This is Spot at the red tree.

This is a family portrait,  if you will,  of my animals. On the couch is Cocoa and Tilly. On the floor is Honey, Morris, and Molly.  Since this has been painted, Honey who was almost 17 died.  Morris who was also just shy of 17 died.  They died within 2 months of each other. The pictures on the wall are of past animals that have died some time ago. Starting from the left is my cat, Christmas. When I left home for the first time she went with me. Next is Manteo. She was Perry's dog when we met and soon became my dog also. The next picture is Willie. What a delight he was. I still miss him. The last picture is of our family cat, Patches.  She was such a sweet cat. During her life she had 3 litters. All of them different. We had no problem giving the kittens away. She would have 4 in each litter and they were so beautiful. So that's the history of this picture. What a crew.

Here's the apple.

The center of this flower is covered in tiny colorful beads.

At the time I painted this I wanted something for fall.

Cereus, a night blooming cactus

Ran across these pictures of this remarkable cactus.  It's called Cereus and it only blooms at night. It is very fragrant. It smells like a sweet lotion.

This is the pod which starts to slowly open before nightfall.

Slowly opening. Notice it's now dark.

A little more.

And finally this beautiful flower  is open.  It's around 11:00 p.m.

Isn't it gorgeous?

And it smells so sweet!

What a lovely specimen of God's creation.

God is so magnificent!
